Elijah's Whirlwind Release Marks Completion

Posted by Keith Howard on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, In : Publishing
The instrumental song, Elijah's Whirlwind, is the only keyboard-driven song on the album.  The rolling keys nudge the rhythm.  However, guitar solo is still the feature as nice riffs are flanked by sass brass and pan flute.  The metaphor that has been a theme throughout the album is carried forward in this last piece too.  God's dealings with humanity are modeled in his choosing the people of Israel as his own.  One prominent prophet, Elijah, left the earth in a fiery chariot riding on the wi...

Loyal Love is Released

Posted by Keith Howard on Saturday, November 13, 2010, In : Publishing
Loyal Love is a musical expression of God's never dying, endless love.  A popular Old Testament maxim is the Hebrew word checed, it is interpreted variously - lovingkindness, favor, goodness, merciful, good deed, in a word, Loyal Love.  This kind of love can only come from God.  This is the perfect final track of my instrumental jazz album.  It carries forward the metaphor of God's interaction in the history of humanity.  His Loyal Love is a motif of scripture from beginning to end.

Things con...

New Instrumental Tune XIN3OHd Released

Posted by Keith Howard on Sunday, November 7, 2010, In : Publishing
GoldSash Publishing is proud to release the song XIN3OHdThe title, XIN3OHd, pronounced zinth-ree-ode, is a culmination of my years of study in Greek and Hebrew, brought to bear upon life experience.  It must always maintain an element of mystery.  Its truth discovered will turn the city upside down.  The music conveys that mystery.  It is a very complex jam.  4/4 yeilds to 12/8 only to discover the original 4/4 embedded inside.  It is next to impossible to keep your head from bobbing as it...

New Tune Released, Latin Atkins

Posted by Keith Howard on Friday, October 29, 2010, In : Publishing
What is Latin Atkins?  Don't get nervous.  We're not counting carbs.  The title simply reflects the feel of the song.  There are moments in the music when the finger picking pattern reminds me of sensational country guitarist Chet Atkins, the phenom.  But when I throw in that one 5/4 measure and contrast the minor mode against the melody, it suddenly takes on Latino characteristics.  The juicy rhythm seasons the saucy sax.  You'll need a steady diet of Latin Atkins.

I dedicate this song to my ...

Title Track Released, Eskaton

Posted by Keith Howard on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, In : Publishing

Today I moved one step closer to the conclusion of the Eskaton album project.  The signature track is titled Eskaton.  I love the way this song worked out.  I felt express inpiration even in the midst of recording.  When the music swells it calls to mind the ultimate victory of God, reminds me of his myriad little victories in daily life along the way, and always brings me to tears.

Eskaton is a folksy reflection berthed in a season in which chaos was stopped, a true Sabbath moment with no dea...

Isaac's Last Laugh Released

Posted by Keith Howard on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, In : Publishing

I'm very excited to debut this song, Isaac's Last Laugh.  It's hard to find words to express the explosion of joy I find in considering God's wrong world righted.  And there is a place in the song when I feel that eruption.  Perhaps you will experience the same thing too.

Musically, the French Horn gets stretched way beyond its classical comfort zone and finds itself tangled in a dual with the Clarinet for background rights.

So what's up with the title?  What is Isaac's Last Laugh all abou...

Soliloquy Released

Posted by Keith Howard on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, In : Publishing

Titled after the Greek form of acting in which the performer is on the stage all alone, Soliloquy is dedicated to ministerial leaders who continually and sacrificially yield center stage to Jesus.  John Baptist said, "He must increase, but I must decrease" (John 3:30).

This tune is set to the ambience of a lamentation.  You will hear the guitar weep.  Written during a very difficult stretch in the journey of a faith child, the strings bend but don't break.

The human spirit can endure  a sick b...

A Little Bit About the Album Title

Posted by Keith Howard on Friday, July 30, 2010, In : Publishing

I've had an interest in the Eschaton for a long time.  It may have been embedded in my Pentecostal upbringings.  From my earliest remembrances there has been a place of longing for the coming kingdom to be realized fully with all its power, glory, peace, and security.  Among the works I've studied is Hans Schwarz, professor of theology at the University of Regensburg in Germany.  I don't line up with him identically, I sense trace residue of Tübingen's higher criticism, intended or not, nest...

Books in Process

Posted by Keith Howard on Monday, July 19, 2010, In : Publishing
I am really excited about my new venture with thebookpatch.com.  I am using them to publish books.  The first children's book project is underway - The Night Owl Rooster at the Early Bird Barnyard.  My son, Nicholas, is working hard on the illustrations.  It's fun to be tag teaming with him.  I am equally jazzed to have a poetry book in the making.  Give Me Words is the culmination of many years' private prayer time, waiting on the LORD, the scribblings of a soul pounding out its faith in rea...

TRIUMPH Artwork

Posted by Keith Howard on Friday, June 25, 2010, In : Publishing

Yesterday I was granted permission to use just the perfect artwork for the cover of TRIUMPH.  The artist, Horseman, gave one condition - that the website always honor Christ, the very thing I hope to do.  You can read all about his artwork, (including his decision to use a green, leafy crown intertwined with the thorns, and the depiction of royalty in the purple robe), at his blog, http://crownofthecurse.blogspot.com/ .  I am so grateful.

Sundance released

Posted by Keith Howard on Monday, June 21, 2010, In : Publishing
Today Sundance was released.  What a fun song!  I really enjoy playing this one.  My first instrument was the trombone.  I played in the school band for three years until I became a gym rat in high school basketball.  But I continued crafting the skills on the slide by playing with the church worship team.  My brother Jamie played the trumpet.  Oh the musical improvisations!  I have fond memories.  And the crash cymbal from the trapset resounding just inches from my left ear.  That's probably...

En Cielo released

Posted by Keith Howard on Thursday, June 3, 2010, In : Publishing
Very jazzed about this new piece.  Things fell together really nicely.  There's a breathy background vocal that disappears from the tune and is taken over by another wind instrument.  When I wrote it I felt it expressed the spirit leaving the body in an explosion of joy, that very moment of making heaven one's home, En Cielo.  I think it's some of my better work.

Posted by Keith Howard on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, In : Publishing
Today GoldSash Publishing took a giant step towards opening for the public.  The company name has been filed with the Secretary of State's office.  Documentation is requested with the County Clerk Recorder.  I registered with the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) as both a writer and publisher.  In the next few days the checking account will be opened.  Humble beginnings for what I hope to be a top-knotch music and writing source that will touch many lives.  I pra...
