This single release, Torn, is a tribute to my Dad, Rev. James E. Howard, November 30, 1943 - March 18, 2011.  Far from a funeral dirge, it is a guitar ballad that captures the heart of struggle and ultimate reward.  He lived his faith, pounding it out through remarkable testimony, endless acts of kindness and love in the face of unspeakable suffering.
My Dad emulated Jacob, wrestling with God, not letting go until he was blessed.  In fact, the name Israel means "he wrestles with God."  The apostle Paul pondered life and death.  "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.  If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me.  Yet what shall I choose?  I do not know!  I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body" (Philippians 1:21-24).  Dad was torn from us by a vicious disease, and his passing tears at me.
