Book Review: Michael Green, Evangelism in the Early Church

October 3, 2011
Michael Green has written an excellent history of the early church history.  This review summarizes some of his important evaluations.  The timing of Jesus' earthly life has all the earmarks of perfect timing regarding language, road building, and issues of war and peace.  Additionally, there are assessments that inform current church life, e.g., the spread of the gospel to Jew and Gentile alike as a priority, the role of apostles, and tacitly matters of church polity.

Ministry Trip to Texas

August 28, 2011
I have thoroughly enjoyed the past few days.  On Wednesday night I was with Pastor John Bates and a wonderful, vibrant and alive congregation in Waxahachie, Texas called Freedom Fellowship International.  They have recently renovated a former theater and have cutting edge presentation in every respect.  It was exciting to present my music.  I enjoyed reconnecting with old friends from Southwestern days, Phil and Denise Geary.  Imagine my delight to find friends from our church in Colorado had...

El Salvador Missions Trip

July 4, 2011
It was a great joy to travel with a group of nine to Santa Ana, El Salvador this past week where we ministered in churches and schools doing a total of 13 outreaches.

However, much of our time was spent putting tin roofs on the plastic houses in three different squatter villages.  They were displaced by a volcano six years ago.  It is the rainy season and the plastic leaks.  No running water or electricity.  The villages are inhabited predominantly by single mothers and children.  We helped th...

Happenings

June 17, 2011
I have been enjoying a little slower pace having completed the Eskaton CD.  But things are beginning to get back in full swing.

Last month our son Nicholas (right in the pic above), was promoted from 8th Grade to High School.  Zakary will be a Senior in High School this fall (draining the 3 below).  Both boys are busy with Summer League Basketball, Basketball Camp and trips, Youth Camp, and lots of music involvement with Static Youth ministries, as well as joining their mother, my wife, Stefan...

A Life Lived Well

March 26, 2011

This single release, Torn, is a tribute to my Dad, Rev. James E. Howard, November 30, 1943 - March 18, 2011.  Far from a funeral dirge, it is a guitar ballad that captures the heart of struggle and ultimate reward.  He lived his faith, pounding it out through remarkable testimony, endless acts of kindness and love in the face of unspeakable suffering.
My Dad emulated Jacob, wrestling with God, not letting go until he was blessed.  In fact, the name Israel means "he wrestles with Go...

Priorities

March 11, 2011
I've just returned from Texas.  My father has stage 4 colon cancer and is preparing to step in the arms of Jesus any moment.  I treasure the time with family during four trips there over the last year.  It really makes you stop and think about the things that are important.  Dad and Mom have modeled genuine Christianity to us all our lives.  I'm so grateful to the LORD who saw fit to bless me with parents who are the real deal.  They live what they say they believe.  They trust in God.  They ...

Marriage and Family Therapy

February 8, 2011

Theology.  Amid the much needed current trend toward marriage and family therapy I add an opinion on the development of family patterns.  This theological work is intended to examine the traits of family development in Israel's most notorious first families, that, in turn, become a picture of the way human families work in general.

Abstract:

A contemporary look at ancient family matters.  A colorful commnetary not weighted down with numerous citations of other works.  Countering present popul...

Oh So Close

November 19, 2010
I'm thrilled to tell you the CD has been edited and is now in the hands of the listening panel for final review.  That will mean a few last alterations and then it is on to duplication.  Didn't quite make the projected release date of November 15th.  However, Eskaton the CD should be available in the second week of December.

Elijah's Whirlwind Release Marks Completion

November 16, 2010
The instrumental song, Elijah's Whirlwind, is the only keyboard-driven song on the album.  The rolling keys nudge the rhythm.  However, guitar solo is still the feature as nice riffs are flanked by sass brass and pan flute.  The metaphor that has been a theme throughout the album is carried forward in this last piece too.  God's dealings with humanity are modeled in his choosing the people of Israel as his own.  One prominent prophet, Elijah, left the earth in a fiery chariot riding on the wi...
